PICTOU - The Pictou County peewee AA Subway Selects took four of a possible six points this week with two wins and a loss in league play.
The Selects travelled to Halifax on Wednesday night, beating the Halifax Hawks 2-0. Mariah Linehan and Madison Robertson scored, with assists from Emily Hayes, Jenna Reid and Lindsey MacDonald. Goaltender Victoria Dunn got the shutout.
On Saturday at the Hector Arena the local girls were victorious over the Dartmouth Whalers, winning 4-0. KJ Emery opened the scoring, banging away at a rebound on the goal line, assisted by Jenna Hickey. Eva Wornell scored twice – her first shot hitting the post and ending up in the net and her second a shot from the slot.
Shalyn Bona and Madison Robertson got the assists on both goals. Reid added the fourth goal for the Selects. Hickey and MacKenzie Ells recorded the assists. Dunn once again earned the shutout, turning aside 11 shots from the Whalers, while the Selects had 33 shots during the game.
At the Hector Arena on Sunday Pictou County faced off against the Valley Wild, outshooting their opponents 22-18, but falling short by one goal, with the Wild taking the game 2-1. Linehan scored the lone goal for the Selects.
