Nighthawks miss crossovers at Danny Dorrington

WESTVILLE - The NRHS boy’s hockey team wrapped up the weekend as hosts of the 8th Annual Danny Dorrington Memorial Tournament with two ties and a loss, narrowly missing the crossovers by one point.

They opened the tournament with a 1-1 tie against Dalbrae Academy.

Brandon Bell scored the lone goal assisted by Jeff Skinner and Morgan Peters. Ben Morrissey was awarded player of the game.

That night they lost their second game of the tournament 2-1 against North East Kings. Scoring for the Nighthawks was Josh Langille, assisted by Jethro Gunn. Noah Chisholm was awarded player of the game.

In their final game of the tournament they tied Par En Bas 2-2. Scoring for NRHS was Jordan Wheeler and Morrissey, assisted by Langille, Reed MacDonald, and Kyle Sutherland. Langille was awarded player of the game.

Dr. J.H. Gillis won the tournament, defeating last year’s tournament winners, Kings-Edgehill in double overtime.

Langille (defenceman) was the lone local picked for the tournament all-star team. Also picked were forwards: Issac Bridge from Kings Edgehill, Tristen D'entremont from Par from En Bas and Keegan Marcott from Dalbrae; defenceman Sam Gorman from J.H. Gillis; and goalie Bobby Dunphy from J.H. Gillis.

The team travels to Antigonish, Thursday, Jan. 16 playing against J.H. Gillis before a home game this Saturday against Amherst. Game time is 6 p.m. at the Westville Arena.

Admission is $4 adults and $2 students.
