Weeks Major Midgets
NEW GLASGOW – The Weeks Major Midgets were 49 seconds from getting three of four points over the weekend as they split their home-and-home with the Newbridge Gladiators.
Saturday night at home Weeks fell 7-5 after Morgan Barron scored with 49 seconds left for Newbridge to break a 5-5 tie. Chad Bannister added an empty net goal.
Lane Cormier, Cody Johnston and Mark Vokey scored in the first period to give the Pictou County squad a 3-2 lead.
In the second Newbridge added three, with Vokey scoring his second, to take a 5-4 lead over Weeks.
Johnston scored his second with 1:54 remaining in regulation to tie the game.
Alex MacDonald and Ryan MacDonald also scored for Newbridge, while Luke Melanson made 45 saves in the loss. Aaron Mantle made 43 saves in the win.
On Sunday in Darmouth Weeks won 6-4.
Cormier scored two in the first to give them a 2-0 lead after one. Noah Archibald and Johnston scored to open the second giving Weeks a 4-0 lead. Luke Green and Ryan MacDonald scored for Newbridge before the end of the period, narrowing the game to two.
Doug Barton increased the lead to three before Jesse Hamer scored a pair to cut the lead to one.
Johnston added an empty net goal to seal the win.
Matthew Williams made 18 saves for the win, while Evan Fitzpatrick made 27 in the loss.
