TRENTON – The North Nova boys hockey team picked up a win and a loss over the weekend.
On Saturday at the Trenton Arena the Gryphons defeated the SAERC Saints of Port Hawkesbury 4-2.
SAERC opened the scoring early in the first, but Kale Mason tied the game with 32 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
Darryl Wheadon and Jacob Pentz combined on goals to open and close the second period, with Pentz assisting Wheadon’s goal and Wheadon assisting Pentz's power play goal.
SAERC scored midway through the third to make it close, but Pentz scored his second of the game on an empty net to take the game 4-2. Lukas MacDonald got the win in the net.
On Sunday afternoon, the Gryphons travelled to Port Hood to face the Dalbrae Dragons. NNEC only found the back of the net once on a power play goal by Kirklin Murray as they were defeated 4-1. Joel MacLean took the loss for the Gryphons.
The schools will break for exams before resuming their regular schedule in February.
