ANTIGONISH – This past weekend the peewee A Crushers came up against some stiff opposition at the Antigonish Automobile Dealers Association A Tournament, losing three straight games.

In the first game the Crushers were down 4-0 and seemed unable to compete against the Bedford Blues until late in the second period when Luke Young scored for Pictou County before Duncan Cameron’s wrist shot found the back of the net 10 seconds later to give the Crushers some life heading to the third period.

Ian MacDonald scored the third Crushers goal in the final period, but it wasn’t enough as Bedford held on for a 4-3 victory.

Saturday morning the Crushers faced the TASA Ducks, losing 3-1. The Ducks entered the tournament having lost only one game all season. An early goal by Young seemed to confuse the Ducks and the Crushers inspired forecheck continued to stymie the opposition for the next two periods as they took a 1-0 lead into the third.

The win that seemed possible ended at the 10 minute mark when the Ducks tied the game before adding two more quick goals against a rattled Pictou County squad.

The Crushers lost their final game of the weekend 5-1 to the Shelburne Flames.

Ian MacDonald had the lone Pictou County goal.
