TRURO – The New Glasgow Junior High varsity girls basketball team were in their second tournament of the season at Cobequid Education Centre in Truro this past weekend.

In their first game against Bedford’s Rocky Lake Junior High, the Lady Panthers fell 49-30.

They bounced back with a 56-33 win over Bible Hill Junior High in their second game before dropping Hebbville 39-22.

Unfortunately for the Panthers one loss was enough to ensure they were not in first place and did not advance to the crossover final.

Over the weekend Riley Sood led the team with 42 points, while Courtney Smith and Aliyah Fraser added 23 and 21 respectively.

Katelyn Biron (13), Abbie Delaney (9), Sabrina Snyder (7), Haley Earle (3), Sarah O’Neil (3), Lucia MacKay (2) and Hailey Fahie (2) rounded out the Panthers scoring.

The Pictou County Lightning bantam girls were also in action on Sunday against the Halifax Steelers. The Lightning pulled out a 48-27 victory with Biron and Sood each scoring 15 points for the Pictou County squad.
