Harvey, Doyle lead Pictou County over Woodstock
NEW GLASGOW – A big third period was the difference last night as the Weeks Crushers swept their season series with the Woodstock Slammers.
Pictou County added three goals in the final frame en route to their 4-1 victory and second-straight win.
In the first period JP Harvey was the lone scorer, breaking down the right side on a breakaway after picking up a Mitchell Deruelle pass in front of the Crushers bench and beating Jenkins five-hole.
Zach Whitlock was the lone scorer in the second period. With the puck bouncing around between players he was able to settle it down at the hashmarks and beat Brandon Thibeau along the ice, tying the game 1-1.
In the third Harvey would tap the puck past Jenkins after an individual effort by Garrett Holmes, who played his 200th regular season game as a Crusher, passed the puck cross-crease.
Just 25 seconds last Tyler Doyle beat Jenkins, which seemed to shock a Woodstock team that had been doing a good job of shutting down the Crushers offence for the majority of the game.

Doyle then helped his team out with a major penalty kill that came after Cole Hutchinson took an interference penalty 7:04 into the third before a five-minute Jordan McInnis checking from behind penalty 7:26 into the third.
Killing both off the Crushers had to hold on for the final 7:34 of regulation, which they did as Doyle sealed the victory with an empty not goal 18:50 into the third.
Thibeau made 25 saves to pick up his 18th win, while Jenkins made 23 in the Slammers loss.
The Crushers are off today before playing the Truro Bearcats tomorrow on the road at the RECC. Puck drop is 7 p.m. In four games this season the Eastlink Division rivals are 2-2 against each other.
They meet again here in Pictou County next Thursday, their last regular season meeting.
