Gladiators take lead in series with Weeks

DARTMOUTH – The Newbridge Gladiators took a 2-0 lead in their NSMMHL series with the Weeks Midgets over the weekend, winning both games 6-3.

Saturday Newbridge led 4-3 after two periods, with the Gladiators adding two in the third en route to their opening win of the series.

Cody Johnston and Noah Archibald (2) scored for Weeks in the loss, while Luke Melanson made 26 saves on 31 shots.

On Sunday Weeks scored two power play goals late in the first period off the sticks of Mark Vokey and Lane Cormier to go up 2-0 after one.

Newbridge tied the game in the second, with Johnston putting Weeks up 3-2 early in the third before the Gladiators scored four unanswered goals to win their second of the series.

Melanson made 40 saves in the loss.

Next Saturday the two teams meet again at the Wellness Centre.
