NGJH Lady Panthers capture bronze at OVEC tourney

GLACE BAY – This weekend marked the Panthers third tournament of the year, this time attending the OVEC tournament in Glace Bay.   

The Panthers were off to a great start on Friday night playing Sydney Mines and winning the game 90-20. 

In their second game Saturday afternoon against TL Sullivan the Panthers won 62-15. Against Malcolm Munroe in their next game the Lady Panthers were defeated 44-37. 

Facing the host Oceanview Educational Centre, one of if not the top team in the province at junior high level, the Panthers lost their second straight game 53-30. 

In the bronze medal game the Panthers faced Whitney Pier with the Panthers winning 70-37 to capture bronze.

Katelyn Biron was named as a tournament all-star. Riley Sood led all scorers with 57 points, while Biron and Courtney Smith chipped in with 45 points and 41 points respectively.
