NEW GLASGOW – The MacLeod Lorway midget A Crushers clinched a spot in the regional playoffs with two wins over the weekend.
The Crushers faced off against the Westville Miners in Westville on Saturday afternoon, taking the game 5-2. Scoring for the Crushers were: Corey Niven, Gordon Conrod, Cale McCarron, Hayden Boutlier and Noah Delorey. Kieran MacGillivary picked up the win in goal, while assists on the goals went to Bailey Campbell, Justin Hill, Boutlier and Delorey.
Sunday the Antigonish Bulldogs visited the Wellness Centre for the Crushers final game of the playoff round
Pictou County came out flying from the first faceoff and carried most of the first period play, going up 1-0 on a goal by Cale McCarron. The game stayed at a 1-0 through two periods.
Finally in the 3rd the Crushers capitalized on great play and widened the lead to 3-0 on goals by Matt MacLean and Hayden Boutlier. Gerry Holle set the insurance tally late in the game giving the Crushers a 4-1 win.
Steven Conway stood tall in the Crushers net to record the win. Assists went to Justin Walsh (2), Boutlier, Holle and Dylan Bennett.
The win gives the MacLeod Lorway squad a total of 13 of 16 points throughout the playoffs, advancing through to the next round where they will be one of two teams from the Highland-Fundy League to advance to face the regional winners from Cape Breton to decide the representatives for provincials late in March.
