LITTLE HARBOUR – Those looking to be active outdoors this weekend have one more option – a half marathon in Little Harbour.
After coming up with the Hypothermic Half idea last year, Terri Waldron said the feedback was so great that they had to have it again this year. They had 23 runners last year and already have 43 registered for this year’s event.
“We had a wonderful experience last year – all left very happy and pleased,” said Waldron. “The potluck afterwards left no one hungry and was a super way for the running members of the community to gel. We had people come from Antigonish last year and this year have several coming up from Halifax to participate.”
The run, 21 km, starts at 9 a.m. this Sunday at 5533 Little Harbour Road. The route goes up Little Harbour Road, across the Logan Road into Trenton and back up the Egypt Road to Little Harbour Road.
There is no cost to run, but there are some fundraisers for the community that they are putting on. They are asking for $10 donations with the funds being split to go to the Canadian Cancer Society and the YMCA Strong Kids program.
“The reason for our run is simply to keep you motivated over a hard winter,” she said. “This has been an especially hard winter and without a reason to get out, it is very easy to skip your run for a particular day. It is also a nice way to encourage others not from around her to come and appreciate the beauty Pictou County has to offer.”
