ST. JOHN’S – The NRHS Nighthawks had a strong finish to the 16th Annual Confederation Cup in St. John's after a slow start, eventually being eliminated in the semifinal by the tournament champions.
In their first game they fell 9-1 to the Holy Spirit Falcons. Kyle MacKenzie was between the pipes, while the was Brandon Livingstone was named the star of the game. The lone goal was scored by Kyle Sutherland.
Game two against Elwood Lakers, resulted in a 5-0 win for NRHS. Brennan Snell recorded the shutout, with Jeff Skinner being named the game star.
Nighthawk goals came from: Jordon Wheeler (2), Jeff Skinner, Noah Chisholm and Dallas MacDonald.
They kept things rolling with a 3-1 win over the Carbenaur Sentinels in their third game. Mackenzie had the win in goal, while Chisholm was the game star. Reed MacDonald, Dallas Macdonald and Josh Langille scored for the Nighthawks.
In their first playoff game they edged the Barrington Barons 4-3. Snell was in goal, while Evan Ferguson was the game star. Goals were scored by: Skinner, Ben Morrissey, Ferguson and Jethro Gunn.
The Nighthawks won their second playoff game 6-3 over the Clarenville Cougars, with Snell picking up another win and Jordan Wheeler being awarded the game star.
Scoring for the NRHS were: Wheeler (2), Gunn (2), Chisholm and Dallas MacDonald. They were eliminated in their next game, the semifinal, losing 5-3 to the Discovery Destroyers. Snell was in goal, while Dallas Macdonald was the game star. Scoring for the Nighthawks were: Wheeler, Kegan Currie and Kyle Sutherland.
Up next for the Nighthawks is a game this Friday at 8:30 p.m. in Trenton against the North Nova Gryphons. The team will return to Trenton on Saturday at 6 p.m. for a game against East Hants.
