STELLARTON – Three goals in the third period turned a tied game into a 4-1 finish for North Nova Education Centre girls’ hockey against Cobequid Education Centre Friday afternoon.

“They started slow, and then they warmed up,” coach Dougal MacInnis said of what changed for the team going into the final period at the Stellarton Rink.

NNEC started off the scoring at 2:12 into the first period with a shot from Jeana Searle, assisted by Keeley MacCuish.

Jamie Forsyth tied the game with only 2:14 remaining in the second period with assists from Megan Johnson and Kayla McNutt.

Megan Fox kicked off the third with a goal for NNEC 1:42 into the period, assisted by Searle and Karla Simpson.

Tracey Denny held the momentum for NNEC with a shot at 8:41 in the final, set up by Lindsay Feit and Searle.

MacCuish clinched the game with 4:26 remaining in the game, with help from Simpson and Brittany Chisholm.

NNEC has faced CEC several times this season, and it’s usually within a goal or two, MacInnis said.

CEC stuck it out, he said, and it could’ve gone either way.

They face Truro again next week as part of a best of three series.

“If we win our next game, we win regionals,” MacInnis said.

NNEC heads to Truro on Thursday, and they meet up again on Friday at home.
