North Nova boy’s hockey wins final regular season game

NEW GLASGOW – In their last game of the regular season, the North Nova Gryphons defeated cross-town rivals Northumberland Nighthawks at the Trenton Arena.

Brandon Livingstone opened the scoring for the Nighthawks late in the first period, but North Nova dominated the final two periods. The Gryphons capitalized on four power play opportunities and had two even strength goals to take the game 6-1.

Jacob Pentz and Darryl Wheadon each had two goals, while Carson Dunbar and Craig Murray added single markers. Assists went to Wheadon, with two, and single helpers to Pentz, Craig Murray, Ryan MacDonald, Connor MacDougall and Kirklin Murray.

The Gryphons start regional playoffs Monday Feb. 24 in Antigonish against the Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals in a best-of-three series.
