TRENTON – The NNEC boy’s hockey team lost 4-3 in overtime to the CEC Cougars Thursday night in Trenton, forcing a third and final game in their regional playoff series.

Truro opened the scoring early in the first, while Duncan Byrne responded for North Nova on a deflection from Connor MacDougall.

Truro scored the only goal in the second to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.

CEC went ahead by two goals early in the third then took a major penalty to go short handed for five minutes. Jacob Pentz (unassisted), and Chris Brooker (assisted by Darryl Wheadon) scored a minute apart on the power play to knot the game 3-3.

The sudden death overtime period ended at the three-minute mark when Truro found the back of the net past Lukas MacDonald to seal the victory.

The third and final game of the series will be played in Truro on Thursday at the Colchester Legion Stadium at 6:30 p.m.

The winner of the game will take the Division 1 regional banner and go directly to the NSSAF provincials at the end of the month.
