The Selects played a solid game from start to finish, taking an early 2-0 lead on goals by Lindsey MacDonald, unassisted, and Eva Wornell, with MacKenzie Ells getting the helper.
TASA got within one goal, but KJ Emery, assisted by Garyn Purvis and Jenna Hickey, answered back within seconds to make it 3-1. Emery then got her second goal of the game, with a helper from Hickey, to make the score 4-1.
TASA got one more, but the Selects were able to hold them off to get the 4-2 win.
Goaltender Victoria Dunn made several key saves late in the game to maintain the two-goal lead, with her team playing well defensively in front of her. All three forward lines scored during the game.
The Selects played a single round-robin playoff against four of the league teams with the top two advancing to the league championship. Pictou County’s record was 3-1 in the round-robin to finish tied with TASA.
The local girls beat the Dartmouth Whalers 3-1, were victorious over the Bedford Blues 3-1 and won 5-3 against the Halifax Hawks. Their only loss was a 4-2 decision for the Ducks, who won the provincial championship last weekend. The Selects won bronze at provincials.
