Female hockey school being held in May

NEW GLASGOW – Local female hockey players will have the opportunity to learn from former Northern Subway Selects at Beatons All Female Hockey School from May 30 to June 1.

The camp, being held at the Pictou County Wellness Centre is meant for girls in novice, atom, peewee and bantam.

Instructors include Maggie Beaton, a Dalhousie Tigers forward and former Northern Subway Selects player, and Lisa MacLean, also a member of the Tigers and a former Selects player. MacLean was also name to the CIS all-rookie team.

More instructors will be added, including an AUS goalie and defenceman.

The camp is three hours a day except for Friday. There will be a meet and greet with an ice session.

The focus will be on drills specializing in skating, shooting, stickhandling, checking, goaltending, defenceman and forwards. They will also talk about positive attitudes and good nutrition.
