NEW GLASGOW – This coming Saturday New Glasgow Kinsmen Baseball will hold its first registration in preparation for the 2014 season.
Kinsman Tim Leblanc coaches his son Cody on proper fastball mechanics at the Kinsmen Baseball Field.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. registration will be taken at the Kinsmen ball field in New Glasgow behind the Dairy Queen. Information is being given to students in the local schools offering more details.
A second registration will follow Saturday, May 10, also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ball field. There will also be additional registration opportunities before the season begins if you cannot make one of these two sessions.
Kinsmen Baseball is coming off a strong 2013 season as 310 players participated in the program. Highlights included capturing the mosquito AA provincial championship and winning the title at the annual Amherst Little League Tournament.
Baseball chair Ray Wagg expects another successful season as players register to enjoy a competitive sport with friends in a safe and quality environment. The program also offers rep baseball for players wishing a more competitive commitment. Tryouts for those teams will be announced soon as the fields begin to dry out.
The Kinsmen Club also encourages players from around the county to register if there is no baseball in their local area. There may be a few players, particularly at the peewee and bantam level, who don’t have a team to play on, so they are welcome in the Kinsmen program.
The club is also sponsoring a coaching clinic Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sobeys Indoor Soccer Complex, free of charge. Clinicians will be coaches from the Eastern Baseball Academy in P.E.I. and all coaches are invited. The morning promises to be a great learning experience as the instructors will cover all basic baseball skills. Kinsmen Baseball will be requesting expressions of interest through email or you can register by simply emailing the program at firstname.lastname@example.org.
