NEW GLASGOW – The atom Tier 1 Northern Storm extended their win streak to five games on the weekend with wins over Halifax and Bedford.
Involved in a three-way race for the league title they faced one foe, the Halifax Jaguars, at the Forum on Saturday, winning 5-4.
The Storm were led early on with goals by Dave Matthews, Ian Reynolds and Dawson MacDonald. They had that lead slip away in the third period as Halifax tied the game. The Storm took the lead on a goal by Nolan MacDonald, only to have Halifax tie the game again. On the power play, with just over a minute remaining, Skyler Earle tipped in Thomas Schnare’s point shot to put the Storm ahead for good, holding on to a 5-4 win.
The victory moved the Storm in front of Halifax with one week to play.
In their second game of the day they defeated Bedford 7-1.
Scoring for the Storm were Cale MacLaughlin, Nolan MacDonald (3), Reynolds, Ryan Denny and Dave Matthews.
Next weekend the Storm have two home games at the Wellness Centre on Saturday, May 10. They play the Sackville Bulldogs at 9 a.m. and then the undefeated TASA Tigers at 2 p.m.
