ANTIGONISH – The North Nova Gryphons girl’s softball team is off to provincials.
After winning regionals last week they will now play at the four-team provincial championship being held this weekend by Avonview in Windsor.
North Nova opened the weekend with a 16-1 victory over CEC.
Kelyn Palmer was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Every NNEC batter got on base with the top batters being Megan Fox who went 5-for-5, Hannah Williams and Gena Cyr 4-for-5, and Jordan Archibald 3-for-4.
Their second game was against Northumberland, which they won 11-1.
Williams picked up the win on the mound with three strikeouts.
All batters were on base again as Taylor Perry and Hilary Taylor led offensively, both going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
In the final they won another lopsided game, this time 9-1 over J.H. Gillis of Antigonish.
Palmer won her second game, this time with nine strikeouts and one hit against.
Perry, Hilary Taylor and Palmer all had homeruns, while Williams was 3-for-3 at the plate.
The last time North Nova won regionals was 2012; the same year they won provincials, which were held at the Dorrington Complex in Stellarton.
