STELLARTON - GMF Computers rallied from a four-run deficit in the fifth inning to beat Kirk's Siding & Windows 12-7 on Friday night at the Nova Scotia Intermediate 'D' Fastball championships.
The host club trailed 7-3, but got one run back in the fifth before exploding for six runs in the sixth inning, cashing in on a handful of singles, a double and a couple of errors made by the Truro-based team.
Freddy Smith came on in relief of starting pitcher Lenny Sherman to get the victory for GMF. Smith, Sherman and Mark Firth all drove in two runs for GMF, Richard MacKinnon had two hits while Adam Stone doubled twice and also singled.
GMF will play at 2 p.m. Saturday against the Halifax Hitmen in the double-knockout tournament, being played at the Dorrington complex in Stellarton.
Also Friday, the Springville Loggers lost 11-1 to the Marine Drive Hitmen. Statistics from that game were unavailable.
The Loggers must win out in order to capture the title, and were scheduled to play at 10 a.m. today.
Aside for the three Pictou County teams taking part in the tournament, there are six other teams from Antigonish, Truro and the Halifax area.
The championship game is slated for Sunday afternoon, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
