NEW GLASGOW – The New Glasgow Kinsmen Dairy Queen Blizzards peewee baseball team will play five games at home this weekend to help prepare for the upcoming provincial championship on Labour Day weekend hosted by Tri-County.
The Blizzards will carry a 12-game win streak into their first game Friday against Prospect at 6 p.m. They then play Saturday at 9 a.m. against Prospect and again at 2 p.m. against Sydney. Their weekend wraps up with two more games on Sunday against Sydney at 9 and 11:30 a.m. All games will be played at the Kinsmen Field.
The Blizzards are coming off recent wins over Windsor by scores of 21-1 and 16-0. Their winning pitcher in game one was Nick MacInnis, while Jordan Tran led the way at the plate with a homerun and double. Luke Young and Nick Horne added three hits each, with Jayden Hatchard, Sam Hickey and Joe McCarron chipping in two hits apiece.
Game two saw Nolan Manning pitch a shutout, with Young hitting a homerun and single. Ray Lowe-Chisholm, Scott Long, Max MacCallum, Hatchard and Tran each added two hits.
New Glasgow also picked up a pair of wins over Woodlawn by scores of 18-3 and 9-4. Cody LeBlanc fired a complete game in game one, with Young again hitting a homerun and double to lead the offence. Braydon Killen, Horne and MacInnis each had a triple in the victory.
McCarron pitched the Blizzards to the win in game two with Hatchard leading the attack with a pair of hits.
