WESTVILLE - Dave MacLennan of Scotsburn picked up two first-place finishes under warm September skies yesterday morning during the annual running of the Jimmy Hawboldt/Fred Lays Sr. Memorial Road Race.
Twenty runners participated in the one-mile event, while 60 ran the five mile race through the streets of Westville.
"Conditions were excellent, it's a nice temperature out," MacLennan said.
The memorial run is an annual late summer event for MacLennan.
"It was one of the first ones I ever attended. I used to come when Jimmy Hawboldt - and now it's in honour of Fred Lays - and I used to run with him."
Central Nova MP Peter MacKay also makes regular appearances at the run. MacKay he was pleased to see participation in an event dedicated to Lays who was a promoter of running long before it became as popular as it is today.
"It's nice to see his name still inspires runners to get out and run."

It's just the way the text code translates from one setting to another. Still, it should be cleaned up.
