ALMA - A young woman is lucky to walk away from a single-vehicle collision Wednesday after the car she was driving landed upside down in a culvert.
The Hyundai Accent was travelling east down the Green Hill Road around noon. Witness Doug Guthro said he saw the vehicle hit the soft shoulder of the road before it spun and landed on its roof in a culvert, facing in the direction it had been coming from.
"She was able to crawl out," said Guthro. "I called 911 and told her to sit until help came."
Alma firefighters were on scene, as well as paramedics, who checked the young woman over for injuries following the crash.
"She was darn lucky that wasn't a steel culvert," added Guthro.
Traffic on the Green Hill Road was reduced to one lane and closed briefly as emergency personnel cleaned up from the incident.
Mounties say the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
"She banged the car up pretty good," said Const. Troy Murray. "The extent of her injuries have not yet been determined."
