NEW?GLASGOW - With a delayed penalty on the way, North Nova Gryphons goaltender Greg Gerrior ran into one of his own players on the way to the bench, and followed up the collision with an outburst of loud profanity towards his own player that earned him a 10-minute misconduct.
The incident fleshed out the feelings of frustration for the stopper - and the Gryphons in general - as they went down 7-2 to the Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals in the opener of their best-of-five semifinal at John?Brother MacDonald Stadium.
North Nova took penalties galore in the game, allowing Gillis forward Stephen MacGillivray to finish with three goals and two assists. Dan?Ryan also scored twice, with David Novak and Ryan Smith rounding out the attack for the visitors.
"We got into big penalty trouble in the first period," said Justin Gallant, a Grade 12 forward. "We took 10 minutes in penalties in the first, and we only play 15 in a period. We didn't come out strong and they came out strong and hungry."
The penalty issues must work themselves out by Thursday night, when the two teams meet in Antigonish. As for the goaltending blowout, it must have patched itself up - head coach Phil Cameron returned Gerrior to the crease for the third period after pulling him in the middle frame following the incident.
David Hutchinson and Cory Westaway scored for North Nova. Game 3 is Friday in New Glasgow.

Crazy, I was just wondering if you knew what the other goalie was like, or if you know Gerrior's history of sportsmanship.

He should have been Kicked out! I guess you can't coach Maturity! I hope they start the other goalie in the next game, win or lose, he seems to be a better sport!

Crazy, i'm wondering if you were at the game? if you were you would have noticed that i didnt have any help at all. and as for my coach not pulling me it was because i calmed down and wanted to finish the game, if you were there you would have noticed it didnt flip out in the third after the other two goals. and also the 10 min misconduct was for swearing at the ref not my player although i did swear at him thats not what i got the misconduct for.

Just wanted to point out this was reported incorrectly, Gerrior's frustration was directed at the Ref and NOT his teammate.
Gerrior is most often found boosting team morale and helps get his teammates pumped for the game.

Seems to me that Crazy has probably never played competitive sports or he would be able to understand the emotions often involved!!
