Team now 2-0 after first home exhibition game of pre-season

The Pictou County Junior A Weeks Crushers defeated the Truro Bearcats 6-4 last night in their first home exhibition game of the season.
Truro started the scoring with Andew Hames making a goal on the Crushers goalie Randy Chisholm 12 minutes into the first period. Corey Bennett tied the game for the Crushers with less than two minutes in the first period.
The second period the Crushers came out fighting and took complete command of the game netting four goals. They were leading 5-1 at the end of the second period. The third period they lost some momentum, but managed to keep the lead for a final score of 6-4.
While pleased with the outcome, head coach Troy Dumville said the team still has a lot of work to do to be where they need to be.
"We definitely have a lot of teaching to do and a lot of work, but there were lots of positives tonight to build on."
One of those positives is the win, which leaves the Crushers 2-0 for the preseason.
"We want winning to be a habit," Dumville said.
He said there was no magic reason why the team performed better in the second period, other than the fact that the guys were trying harder.
"The first period we just didn't seem to win any puck battles," Dumville said. "We couldn't any momentum at all, and all of a sudden we just stated competing and kind of changed the tone of the game a bit for us."
He said it's that kind of hard work that's going to make them winners this season.
"We're not a team that's going to go out and finesse a team to death," Dumville said.
"We have to be a blue-collar team. We have to outwork them."
One of the players who showed that spirit was Danny Robichaud, a newly acquired centre. Early in the second period he dropped the gloves with a much taller Colin Beck of Truro. Trading his blood stained no. 18 jersey for a new one, Robichaud returned to the game after his penalty time was up and continued to play hard.
"He's everything he's been billed to be," said Crushers president Wade Taylor.
The team did slack off again during the third period dropping their lead from a four to two-point margin.
"We're nowhere near a 60-minute effort yet," Dumville said.
That's something that they're going to have to improve on before the regular seasons he said.

Enjoy the wins while you can Crusher fans. Once the Regular sesason starts the Bearcats will dominate the league. Maybe the Crushers could fetch water bottles for the Cats.
