The two Pictou County boxers competing in Ste. Hyacinthe, Que., will come home without the medals they had hoped for this week after losing their bouts at national senior championships
Brody Blair of Lyons Brook was competing in the 75 kg division and although he was strong, he ultimately lost his bout against Ryan Baulk of Ontario, said the Nova Scotia teams assistant coach Tom Davis, who runs the Westville Academy of Boxing.
His son Dukus "The Duke" Davis also lost his match against Omari Henry of Ontario last night in what he describes as an exciting bout.
Duke is a super heavyweight and was competing in the 91+ category. This was his second time at the championship as a senior.
The two super heaveyweights were tied 3-3 after the first round, but in the second Henry took a three-point lead Duke couldn't shake, despite knocking the Ontario boxer on his back in the second.
"Everybody tells us that they thought he won it," Tom Davis said.
Duke was taking the loss well though, he said.
"He's not really disappointed because he knows he has done the best he can do," Tom Davis said.
