It wouldn't be the Crushers if we didn't have our regular ups and downs as we hit the final month of the regular season.
The Crushers scored six times on Thursday night for the third consecutive game and third straight win. Geoff Hum and Dan Joyce led the attack with a goal and three assists each. Mathieu Boudreau scored twice for the home side while Adam Chipman rounded out the scoring while adding two assists. Justin Collier earned the win against his former team.
But then on Monday in Dieppe, the Crushers trailed 3-0 in the third period before Dan Joyce scored two third period goals to cut the deficit to one. Unfortunately another late rally was not to be as the Commandos scored into an empty net for a 4-2 victory. Collier was once again in the Crushers net as the Crushers played awful.
The Crushers return to the John Brother MacDonald Stadium for a game against potential first round playoff opponent Halifax Lions. We have defeated the Lions on the ice three times in as many games this season but lost points in the last meeting due to a Halifax protest. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and will see an exciting unveiling by the Crushers in support of the upcoming Olympic Games in Vancouver. Fans are also encouraged to support the team's pursuit of the league's attendance title as the team enters the final month of the season.
Starting on Feb. 11, the Crushers will welcome a local, former Olympian to each home game as a special guest, share their story and have them drop the ceremonial puck.
On Feb. 18, the Crushers will host a Team Canada Night where fans will be asked to dress in Canadian wear to show the support for our team as they will tackle Switzerland that night. The Crushers game against the Dieppe Commandos will commence at 6:30 p.m. that night in order for fans to catch the 8:45 p.m. puck drop for Sidney Crosby and crew.
February will be an important month for Crushers fans as the team attempts to finish first in MJAHL attendance for the first time in the franchise's six year history. With five home games remaining, the Crushers hope to average more than 1,000 fans per night.
Crusher of the Week
This week's Crusher of the week goes to Geoff Hum. The 20-year-old forward had 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points in two Crushers games last week. Geoff is studying full time at St. Francis Xavier University.
