NEW GLASGOW - Halifax Lions coach Troy Ryan finally got the win he wanted.
Last night the former Weeks Jr. A Crusher coach defeated his former team 4-1.
"Obviously it's nice for me to come in where I used to coach," he said.
But more important he said to him was the two points the Lions earned.
"We're still trying to keep some guys off our back for the playoffs," he said. "We're not really competing with Pictou County right now. I think they've probably got second sewn up. We're just looking if we can upset Bridgewater and get into third and if not solidify fourth."
Although the Lions were awarded the two points for the last game they played with the Crushers because the league ruled the Pictou County team had used an illegal player, this was the first win on the ice the Lions have had against the Crushers.
The Crushers started the first period strong out-shooting the Lions 13-1.
But in the second and third periods the Lions evened it up.
"For us to come back like that shows a lot of character for our guys," Ryan said.
The difference this time from the other times the two teams have faced off was that the Lions finally learned from their mistakes, Ryan said.
"The biggest thing is just finding a way to win. Once you've lost so many games it becomes easy to lose," he said. "You've got to change the little behaviours and make them find a way to win instead."
The Crushers current coach Troy Dumville said his players became to complacent tonight.
"You have to want it. That team in there right now doesn't care if they win or lose," Dumville said motioning to the dressing room. "That's a sad, scary thought for a coach in February. That's something they have to fix."
The players the team counts on most games didn't perform the way they should tonight, Dumville said.
"The same thing happened tonight as happened in Truro - our best players were not our best players and when that happens we don't win."
The Crushers will be in Summerside this Sunday.
"They've beaten us twice this year, so it's like anything, we have to be prepared," Dumville said.

To me it seems as if the crushers are hardly working and instead they should be working hard

Holy cow, a team that doesn't care...who's fault is that Troy! Here's a hint, back in the day when we played like your team did last night, we paid the price in the next few practices..i.e. hard skating, and no pucks. By February if you can't get them to play for you, maybe not all the issue is with the players lack of emotion. New jerseys, a team in town that stole 2 points from you, and you Troy lay an egg of emotion for the game Lets do some grading:

Dan Joyce - A: would be higher if he didn't take shifts off occasionally, power forward, one of the strongest players on his skates in the league.
Geoff Hum - A-: Dumville's experiment with him on the point on the power play cost the team, can take stretches off.
Scott Macdonald - A: great position player, usually makes good choices on the ice, fights the puck from time to time
Boudreau - A-:very improved player, solid contributor chews up minutes
Trent macDonald - A-: chews up minutes, makes a lot of good decisions, doesn't shy away from the rough going.
Slaunwhite - B-: started strong but progression has slowed, shys away from the rough going sometimes causing turn-overs.
Mitch Fraser- B+: looked at times like he could dominate the game both physically and offensively, then other times appears to be in another building. Improved concentration makes the Crushers a far better team.
Cameron - B: good season for a 4th line player, wears his heart on his sleeve night in and night out
Robichaud, Little, Noseworthy B-: these guys aren't putting up the points to be allowed to not be crashing and banging, could be one of the most punishing lines in the league and set the tone for their team every night.
Hoyt - B: injuries have slowed his development, could be a scary creature in this league with 20 pounds on him, very quick skater, with a ability to dominate play.
Fortune - B+: shows some leadership, should be using his size to carve out more space.
Roland - A: great pick up, heart all the time, quitely having a solid season.
Chipman - A: short evaluation, but plays hard all the time, can be a difference maker by punishing defensemen, great player along the boards.
Smith - A-:has fit in well, needs to pick his spots a little better as roaming can cost more in the playoffs.
Collier - A+: number one goalie that gives his team a chance to win every night they show up. Puck handling helps on the back line.
Spears - A: haven't seen him play, but backups that win games on the road deserve high marks
Maynard - A+: strong skater, and physical, responsibly player with good offensive numbers and upside, all wrapped up in a young player.
Hynes - A+: great season in all categories, good solid offensive player who makes smart plays with the puck defensively and along the boards, plus he's a Newf..A++.

Dumville(GM) - A+: made great moves to make his team better and a contendor, and didn't mortage the farm for it.
Dumville(coach) - B-: needs to get more out of this team, he brought them here to win, but can't seem to fire the team up, maybe a little passion on the bench might work.

Just my humble opinions, don't start the usual Pictou County chop up of the writer, but comment on the topic fairly.

Pictou, I'm not an insider, i'm just a season ticket holder who offered his personal opinion about the personel on the ice and the coach based on being at all the home games this year....no insider or what ever you say.

Just for once tried to start an intelligent conversation on a topic on here, but it didn't take you long to suck the intelligence out of it.

with the directors from new glasgow behind the crushers , you will get the same results you get in county hockey from the past 7 or 8 years ? nothing !!!!!!
junior hockey will be ruined in the next 2 years , it ruined it big time in the B level totaly with zero tolerance reffing and one fight rule . so with the new rule in effect next season you will see a major drop in fans , not just because of the one fight rule ,but the all around way of what changes are being made to the game ? as for new glasgow and there crushers ? same old BS you read from them guys every year , perdiction , first round crushers will be gone , truro now ? you will never compete with the club they have iced this season ,in my eyes the most powerful club i have ever seen evans produce , with buddies comments above ? sounds more of a jeff green comment or some other string puppet from the click ,,lol i guess he figures no one can see the game besides him ? WHAT EVER !!!!! there is something most diffently wrong in crusher ville !!!! and you don't have to be a rocket science to figure it out !! word on the street is dumbville himself and his polictal string puppets on the bench for which these young fellows have no respect for ??? is it true ? or do insiders who billet these young men from around the county make these stories up ? observer whats your facts on this if your so in debth with crushers ??
