Bantam ‘B’s gold at New Page tournament

PORT HAWKESBURY – The Stellarton Royals Bantam B team won gold at the New Page tournament which took place Wednesday and Thursday in Port Hawkesbury.

They opened their first game with a win against Sherbrooke 5-1. Goals were scored by Timmy McKinnon, Nathan Wynn, John Lewis, Justin Fitt and Brandon Gillespie. Game MVP was Timmy McKinnon. Their second game against New Glasgow resulted in a 4-1 win.

Scoring were: McKinnon (2), Todd Legere and Nick Stewart. Fitt was named game MVP. Game 3 was a nail biter, with Cheticamp winning by one goal with a score of 3-2. Scoring for Stellarton was McKinnon (2). This hard fought game brought both teams to the final for gold, in which Stellarton was victorious in a 3-2 win. Goals were by: Lewis, Fitt and game winner Cody Heighton with 1:20 seconds to go. MVP for the tournament was Trevor Fitt who was outstanding in goal.

The team was known as a third-period team during the tournament. They were short-handed several times, which didn't stop them from picking up wins.
