TRENTON – The Wonder Auto Bantam AA Crushers will play host to the Hockey Nova Scotia Bantam AA provincial championships at the Trenton Rink this weekend.

The tournament gets underway Friday and will run through Sunday.

This years' championship will feature five strong teams representing all regions of the province, including: The Dartmouth Whalers, West Hants Royals, Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates, Truro Bearcats and the host Pictou County Crushers. Each team won the right to represent their zone at the provincial tourney by winning their regional playoff series. Pictou County will open the championship event with a match against the Truro Bearcats Friday at 4 p.m.

The opening ceremonies will follow at    5:45 p.m. Teams will play each other once through the round robin with the top two teams advancing to the final Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Crushers have been strong all year long with a winning record of 32 wins, 11 losses and five ties. They won gold at two of the three tournaments in which they participated, including one over Truro at Christmas and another in Dieppe over Sherwood /Parkdale (P.E.I.).

The Crushers participated in the seven team Cape Fundy Highland Hockey league which included Truro, Port Hawkesbury and West Hants, all of whom will compete at this years' Provincials.

The provincial championships will include a skills competition at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Single day and weekend passes, as well as tournament programs, are available at the gate, which opens Friday at 3 p.m.
