NEW GLASGOW – The Town of New Glasgow will continue to be a gold level sponsor of the Weeks Jr. A Crushers when the team moves to the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
Council agreed during a recent committee of the whole meeting to extend the Jr. A’s hockey contract with John Brother MacDonald Stadium from July 31 to Nov. 16, after which the team is expected to move into the Wellness Centre.
When the team moves, it has agreed to keep the town on as a gold sponsor, but since the Wellness Centre staff has yet to work out its sponsorship package, it is unclear what gold sponsorship will involve at the new facility.
Meanwhile, the town is looking at selling the clock above centre ice at the JBM stadium to the Wellness Centre. The clock was purchased by the Weeks Hockey Organization for the stadium and Coun. Terry Curley said there may be an opportunity for ownership to change.
The town agreed to look into the matter in a “timely fashion” and to make sure that the older time clock on the wall is ready to operate for minor hockey teams in the fall. It must also speak with the clock’s sponsor, Pepsi, to ensure it would be all right with such a move.
