LITTLE HARBOUR - Firefighters in this community, Linacy and Pictou Landing, as well as from the Department of Natural Resources, responded to a brush fire on the Powell Road yesterday afternoon.
The fire was one of nearly half a dozen, which broke during the day, as temperatures soared to nearly 30 degrees Celsius under moderate winds.
Greg Evans, who worked as fire-ground commander for part of the day, said roughly 2.7 acres burned as the fire spread along a hill spotted with young birch trees and grass.
The cause, he says, was unnatural, but it hasn't been determined yet exactly what it was.
Roughly 40 firefighters and DNR staff were on the scene from around 2 p.m. to roughly 6:30 p.m. Though the fire broke near a home, Evans said firefighters were able to keep it from damaging it.
