Celia Peters had a feeling yesterday was going to be a good day.
As she prepared to compete in the 800 metre race she told her coach she had a feeling things were going to go well.
"You know what, I should bring my track suit for when I go on the podium," she said.
Turns out her hunch was right.
With a time of 2:11.06 Peters finished third in the event and will be bringing back a broze medal when she returns to her hometown, New Glasgow.
High winds made the race a challenge says her coach Steve Wolmouth, but Peters persevered.
"We all knew it was going to be really windy, so we knew we were going to have to work pretty hard," Peteres said. We went out looking for someone to kind of block the wind for us and we all knew it was going to comedown to a kick. I was really lucky I had a little bit left and was able to kick to the finish and into the bronze."
This day has been something Peters has been looking forward to since the last time she competed in the Canada Games.
"It's really exciting," she said. "Kind of the icing on the cake after a long summer season."
What made the moment even more special for Peters was that her extended family who live in P.E.I. were able to be there to see her run.
"I really enjoyed having all my extended family here to cheer me on," she said.
Peters hasn't had a chance to rest on her laurels yet. About 25 minutes after she ran in the 800 metre race, she competed in the 4X400 metre race and helped Nova Scotia finish second in their heat with a time of 3:52.58.
"That was a little bit challenging but we managed to get through that," she said.
In the mens' 4X400 metre race the Nova Scotia team, which includes Pictou County's Luke Demetre, finished fourth in their heat with a time of 3:21.51
In the 400 metre hurdles, New Glasgow's Morgan Priske had a time of 1:09.57.
Today Luke Demetre and Randall Henley will be competing in the finals of the 4X100 metre male event.
