Hetherington runs, swims, cycles, Ironman world championship

KONA, Hawaii - New Glasgow's Ken Hetherington competed in the Ford Ironman?World Championship with an overall time of 16:32:55.
On Saturday, amid hot, humid and windy Hawaii conditions, he completed a 3.8 km swim in 1:41:18, a 180 km bike ride in 8:39:38 and finally a 42.2 marathon run in 5:58:38.
Hetherington's efforts placed him 1640 out of over 2000 qualifying athletes to the international event.
Hetherington finished 28th in his age group (65-69) out of a pool of 35 athletes.
Hetherington participated in the gruelling challenge just six months after running in the Canadian Ironman competition in Penticton B.C, Aug. 30.
Hetherington's fellow members of the Pictou County Tri-Club and friends issued congratulations to he and his wife Mary, who was at the event during the weekend to support him.
