On Tuesday, the Pictou County Female Midget Subway Selects won the gold medal game in Truro's annual KFC tournament by beating the host team Colchester in a see-saw battle by a score of 1-0.
Scoring with one minute left to play in the first period was Celine Morais with a shot from just inside the blue line, being set up by Randi Sullivan and Brittany Robertson. Lisa White came up with some big saves to earn another shutout between the pipes. Morais earned her MVP.
In earlier round robin action the girls played Colchester in game one coming out on top 5-3. Leading the way for the Selects was Lyndsay Oakes firing four goals with Maddy Fraser getting the single marker, with helpers coming from Kaitlyn Higgins, Lindsey Denny, Emily MacKay, Kaleigh Nichol, Brittany Robertson and Celine Morais. Sarah Sutton came up with some big saves to get the victory in goal. Oakes was named MVP.
Game two saw the Subway Selects down the Dartmouth Whalers by a score of 4-1. Lyndsay Oakes scored a hattrick with Kaleigh Nichol rounding out the scoring, the loan assist going to Lindsey Denny. Lisa White got the win in goal with Nichol earning her MVP.
In the third game of round robin action, the girls defeated Parrsboro 8-0. Lyndsay Oakes and Emily MacKay each had a pair of goals; single markers went to Marli Johnston, Lindsey Denny, Kayleigh Nichol and Celine Morais. Sarah Sutton played between the pipes earning herself another shutout; Denny got MVP.
