EUREKA?- If you see flashing lights and detours in the Eureka area Sunday morning, don't be alarmed.
Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline will be conducting an emergency response training exercise Sunday morning from approximately 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The simulated exercise will be staged from the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department station and will require the partial closing of Highway 374 from Lorne Station Road to the Elgin Crossroads. Traffic may be delayed or re-routed during this time.
People in the area can expect to see emergency vehicles and equipment, and hear the sound of blowing, compressed air. No natural gas will actually be released during the exercise.
Emergency responders from local fire departments, police and Maritimes and Northeast will use the exercise to practise their emergency skills, teamwork and co-ordinated response.
Maritimes and Northeast carries out such drills regularly with its partners along the company's pipeline route through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and New England.
