NEW GLASGOW - This was supposed to be a season to remember for Timmy Caines.
An original Crusher, the Stephenville, N.L. native suffered a right knee injury in September during a game at Summerside, and has been sidelined ever since.
"They still don't know if it's completely torn," said Caines, 20, who had been expected to be a key penalty killer for the Crushers as they embarked on a their Fred Page Cup year.
He added he hopes to have arthroscopic surgery next month and is aiming for a February return. Caines would like to avoid having reconstructive surgery until the off-season.
In recent Weeks, the winger has been doing some skating during team practices, but that's a far cry from the rigours of actual games.
"I don't have full movement, I can't bend it completely," he said.
"Now that I'm out skating, I'm having some fun, but watching games is the worst. I'm just trying to contribute to the team any way I can."
Coach Troy Ryan said if Caines does get clearance to play, he'd be welcomed back, as long as the knee can handle the physical pounding after such a layoff.
"Not many teams would have kept him around," Ryan said. "We're waiting to see if he can be eligible to play."

Hang in there Timmy your fans back in Newfoundland are still supporting you and hoping you will still have success in the end. Your dedication to the Crushers organization in the past four years is a good reason to keep you around, most players would have packed it in and gone home.
