STELLARTON- Sobeys announced Thursday that they are acquiring 250 Shell Gas Stations in Atlantic Canada and Quebec.
Andrew Walker, spokesman for Sobeys, said the company has reached an agreement on the acquisition and expects the deal to close March of 2012, following the competition bureau's review of the deal.
Walker said once the deal is complete, the stations will continue to run as Shell stations. Fifty of the stations are located in Atlantic Canada and 200 in Quebec.
In a statement, Sobeys CEO Bill McEwan said the deal was an opportunity to grow its existing retail gas operations and leverage Sobeys' wholesale and convenience store business.
