True North sells North-Air windows and doors, manufactured in Sydney, Cape Breton, but the store also sells mouldings, heat pumps, air filters for homes, water coolers and Laundry Pro units, which attach to washing machines and clean laundry without using soap.

Owner Phil McLellan said he and business partner Gary Snell decided to open the business because of their belief in the quality of the windows and doors made by North-Air. As a window installer, it was also a good fit for Snell.

“It’s a high-end, Nova Scotia-made window. We believe it’s superior over any other window out there,” says McLellan. “They’re made for the Nova Scotia climate.”

Each of the other items sold by True North were added to help people find good quality and unique products. “People are having a hard time getting heat pumps. There’s a big demand – the market is taking right off, so we decided to expand into heat pumps.”

The company opened Jan. 5 on Foord Street in Stellarton. The new business is located next to McLellan’s other business – East Coast Pawn Stars – which is four years old.

“When this space became available because another business moved out, it worked out perfectly for us.”

McLellan said True North installs the windows and doors it sells, and also has people on staff to complete home renovations, build decks, and install siding and roofing.

McLellan said he has plans to offer other different products as well. “We’ve got many more ideas for the future.”
