The annual spring Glen Haven Manor Family Council Assembly, hosted for the family members and friends of residents, will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 2 p.m. in the Bluenose Dock Room at Glen Haven Manor, bottom level.
“We look forward to having this opportunity to share and exchange information in person with the family members,” says Lisa M. Smith, CEO. “We are very pleased to have a representative from the Nova Scotia Office of the Ombudsman Outreach to Families, Seniors Service attend as a special guest presenter as well as presentations on several new initiatives that benefit our residents.”
The Nova Scotia Office of the Ombudsman Outreach to Families Senior Services provides independent oversight to seniors in residential care facilities, nursing homes and homes for the aged. While the primary responsibility for seniors in care facilities rests with the Nova Scotia Department of Health, the Office of the Ombudsman provides a proactive role through regular visits to “senior facilities.”
Ombudsman representatives, dedicated to seniors’ issues visit the facilities, explain the role and functions of the Office, and discuss any concerns the seniors may have. This proactive approach provides an avenue for seniors’ voices to be heard and have their issues addressed. Ombudsman representatives will also assist seniors/residents and their families in navigating through government processes, advising them of avenues of appeal and participating on committees relating to seniors’ issues.
In addition to the presentation by the Office of the Ombudsman Outreach to Families representative Colleen Bob, the agenda will feature information on Family and Resident Satisfaction surveys, presented by Social Worker Diane Palmer, and updates on the newly designed Glen Haven website, social media and information kiosks by Glen Haven Creative Director/Multi-Media Specialist Jon Visser. Summer program highlights will also be presented by Glen Haven Recreation Programmer Gwen Savage.
Family and friends planning to attend are required to RSVP to Diane Palmer, Social Worker, Glen Haven Manor by phoning 902-752-2588, ext. 235.
