Last leg of journey for palliative care comes to New Glasgow

Members of the community turned out Sunday at Glasgow Square to welcome Kane Mercer who finished his cross-Canada bike trip in New Glasgow, raising awareness about palliative care and funds for the Victoria, B.C., hospice.

Phyllis Bate, secretary of the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society; Dr. Winston Makkan, former director of the APCS; Eric Arbuckle, volunteer board member; Kane Mercer; Ian Bos, who also undertook a cross-Canada tour, on foot, for palliative care; and Margaret-Ellen Disney, vice chair of APCS.

Mercer’s travels were also a way of honouring his father, Rand, who died of cancer.
