Locals compete at highland dance competitions


Annika Murray and Emma Hines traveled to Ottawa to take part in the Canadian Capital City Championship held Oct. 24. Judges were Janice MacQuarrie, NS, Eleanor Beaton, ON and Erin Welk, AB.

Premier 10 – Annika Murray: Fling 4th, Sword 4th, Reel 4th, Sean Triubhas 6th. 3rd Runner Up trophy winner.  

Premier 16 & Under 22 – Emma Hines: Fling 3rd, Sword 2nd, Sean Triubhas 5th, Reel 4th. 2nd Runner Up trophy winner.

The results for the Ottawa Highland Dancing Competition held on Oct. 25 are:

Premier 10 – Annika Murray: Sean Triubhas Special Event 2nd, Village Maid 4th, Flora 5th.

Premier 15/16 – Emma Hines – Laddie 4th, Irish Jig 2nd, Flora 1st, Village Maid 1st. 1st Runner Up trophy winner.

The Atlantic Canada Open Championship and Maritime Open Premiership were held in Bedford on Oct. 3-4. The judges were Anne Donland, New York, Linda Napier, Scotland, and Jannifer Stephenson, Quebec. The piper was Glen Sinclair of Ontartio. 

The results for Saturday are:

Premier 11 & Under – Annika Murray: Fling 4th, Sword 5th, Sean Triubhas 4th, Reel 6th. 5th Runner Up.

Premier 16 & Over – Emma Hines: Fling 3rd, Sword 3rd, Sean Triubhas 3rd, Reel 4th. 2nd Runner Up.

The results for the Maritime Open Premiership on Sunday are:

Premier 10 – Annika Murray Laddie 4th, Flora 3rd, Scotch Measure 5th, Hornpipe 4th.  3rd Runner Up.

– Amelia Parker: Laddie 6th, Hornpipe 5th.  5th runner up.

Premier 11 – Rachel Rowan: Flora 6th, Scotch Measure 6th, Hornpipe 6th.

Premier 16 & Over – Emma Hines: Laddie 2nd, Flora 2nd, Scotch Measure 4th, Hornpipe 3rd. 2nd Runner Up.

The 37th Annual Colchester Highland Dance Competition was held in Truro Oct. 17, judged by Christa Mackie and Allison Malloy. Several Pictou County dancers were in attendance and their results are as follows:

Beginner 8 & 9 – Penelope Brown: Fling 6th, Sword 3rd.

– Cassie Moser: Fling 5th, Sword 2nd, Sean Triubhas 2nd, Lilt 4th.

Premier 10 – Annika Murray:Village Maid 1st, Blue Bonnets 7th, Irish Jig 3rd.

– Amelia Parker: Blue Bonnets 6th, Hornpipe 2nd.

Premier 11 – Sidney Baillie: Village Maid 5th, Irish Jig 5th, Hornpipe 1st.

– Rachel Rowan: Village Maid 2nd, Irish Jig 2nd, Hornpipe 5th.

Premier 12 – Ainslie Salter: Village Maid 1st, Blue Bonnets 1st, Irish Jig 1st, Hornpipe 1st.  High Aggregate Winner.

Premier 13 – Alaina Bryce: Village Maid 1st, Blue Bonnets 4th, Irish Jig 2nd.

Premier 14 & 15 – Madison Baillie: Irish Jig 7th, Hornpipe 6th.
