Special anniversary events at Green Hill – Alma

Dating their start from the beginning of the United Church in Canada, the “friendly little church by the side of the road” is turning 92.

There are a number of celebrations planned for the coming weekend

On Friday, October 13, beginning at 7 p.m. the congregation shares its love of music with a “ceilidh-like” concert.  Musicians include Katey and Pierre Aucoin, Crystal Mann, All in Good Time, Getting Jiggy With It, Rachael McLean, John Robertson and Norman Lord, the church choir and a brand new accordion duet.  Admission is by donations for the food bank:  food items or cash.

Saturday is fun day for families.  A number of seasonal and favourite activities will be set up outside for the kids and parents can enjoy them as well or drop into the church for a warm or cold drink and a wee bit of a snack.  The Family Fall Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and admission to that is by donation with a suggestion of $2 a person or a $10 donation per family.

Sunday at noon, the celebrations will continue in joy-filled worship led by Rev. Jeanne Stright former minister of the Green Hill – Alma Merigomish pastoral charge.

The little church truly has much to celebrate as it enters its 93rd year sharing love and hope with the community.  The congregation looks forward to sharing ministry with its sister congregation in Merigomish and Sharon St John United Church in Stellarton beginning in January 2018 as they all welcome their new minister to the area.
