Three local dancers nominated to attend program in Calgary


Three members of the Pictou County Highland Dance Association have been nominated to attend the Scottish Dance Teachers' Alliance North American Scholarship Program.

The James L. McKenzie and Elspeth Strathern Scholarships will be held Sept. 25-27 in Calgary.

Twelve-year-old Charlotte Adams, daughter of Lara Scholey and Carl Adams of Scotsburn, was chosen after receiving honours in grade 1, during the 2014 exam tour and nominated by Winnipeg examiner, Gaelyn McGregor. Charlotte attends the Holly MacDonald-Bent School of Dance.

Thirteen-year-old Alaina Bryce, daughter of Angela McKay and Ron Bryce of Stellarton, also received honours in her grade 1 exam by Ms. McGregor. Alaina goes to the Brenda MacKay School of Highland Dancing.

Fourteen-year-old Beth McNeill, daughter of Eileen MacIsaac and Frank McNeill of Pictou, was  nominated for her honours  on the grade 3 exam. She attends the Holly MacDonald-Bent School of Dance.

All three girls have been nominated for the junior scholarship, which the dancers have four sections to be marked on. Tribute to J.L McKenzie dance, a solo choreography, a written paper and a master class.

Only those dancers who have been nominated from across North America receive an invitation to attend this prestigious event.
