Late morning fire destroys shed
The News
GREENWOOD – Firefighters responded to a fully involved structure fire at a shed along the Kyle Road late Thursday morning.
The intense fire destroyed the building, roughly 10’ by 12’, and melted siding from a nearby garage and the rear of the home. There were no injuries.
“We’re not quite sure how the fire started,” said Thorburn Chief Dave Sponagle. “We suspect it could be from a burn barrel and spread from that. But they lost an ATV, garden and yard tools, tires.”
As the fire was extinguished, firefighters also checked the rear wall of the home for heat with a thermal imager.
Fearing the damage the fire could do, and mindful that many in volunteer departments work during the day, Sponagle requested mutual aid from Linacy and Plymouth fire departments.
“Before the trucks arrived, I was getting pretty antsy because she was all blowing that way,” he said, motioning to the melted strips of vinyl that were hanging from the adjacent buildings.
