New hoops court taking shape at rec centre PETER CLARKE The News
NEW GLASGOW – The outdoor basketball court beside the recreation centre on Brother Street in New Glasgow is being replaced.
The new court has been plotted out already and the gravel has been laid as well as some fresh sod around the border.
New Glasgow councillor Henderson Paris has been behind this project since the beginning.
“Since 2005 we’ve been looking at that project to move forward,” said Paris. He is extremely pleased that the project is nearing completion.
“All the prep work has been done. We’re just waiting on the asphalt,” he said.
The project should be done in about two weeks he said.
New Glasgow town council approved the project with a $50,000 budget, but Paris said that they should actually come in at close to $45,000.
The original court will be converted to a parking lot, which Paris said was sorely needed at the recreation centre.
“It will certainly get used. When anything is new or upgraded it’s a bonus,” Paris said.
