Some local musicians will be performing Saturday night at The Dock in New Glasgow as part of a nationwide fundraiser for music therapy programs.
A Night Out will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. with entertainment by Karen Corbin, Heather Cameron and Kenny Stewart.
Cameron is an accredited music therapist who works in the community. Music therapy she explains is the skilful use of music by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain and restore mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health.
She said many programs that involve music therapy struggle with funding which is why fundraisers like this are so important. While it’s part of a national fundraiser, she said if more than $1,000 comes in it will go towards a local program. Last year there was $800 raised at the event, so she’s optimistic they can reach their goal.
The funding will go to existing music therapy programs.
