Anglers in Pictou County and across Nova Scotia can enjoy a weekend of free fishing from Feb. 17 to 19.
People fishing in winter can catch trout, perch and chain pickerel at about 60 open lake locations across the province.
“You can introduce family, friends and visitors to this sport during the annual free winter fishing weekend,” said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell in a release Friday. “But, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned angler, please put safety first.”
During the regular winter season, sports anglers must obtain a fishing licence that can be purchased at Department of Natural Resources offices.
Sportfishing generates more than $56 million in revenue for communities around the province, according to the government.
