Marcel d’Entremont of Merigomish performing in La Traviata

HALIFAX Tenor Marcel d’Entremont of Merigomish will be performing in Halifax this weekend, cast as Alfredo in opera La Traviata.

Cecilia Concerts is presenting this romantic drama set against poignant musical realism, which tells the improbable love story between a famous Parisian courtesan and her young idealistic lover.

Verdi’s La Traviata is based on the novel La Dame aux camellias by Alexandre Dumas Junior.

The production will be at Lilian Piercey Concert Hall on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts (6199 Chebucto Road).

D’Entremont recently graduated from the Master's program at the University of Toronto. He studied voice privately during high school before attending Mount Allison University and graduated from Acadia University. He is a past recipient of the New Glasgow Music Festival Rose Bowl and a four-time winner of the MacKinnon Memorial Voice Rose Bowl in the Halifax Kiwanis Music Festival.

In 2013, he was the recipient of the Portia White Award, the highest award offered from the Talent Trust for voice. For the past four summers, he has been a featured soloist with the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.

Cecilia Concerts is also offering a pre-concert talk at 6 p.m. with Dr. Jennifer Farrell (soprano), an active soloist, pedagogue, adjudicator, examiner, and clinician.
